A 2025 study specifically examining the combination of cyclosporine and NB-UVB found that concomitant therapy did not significantly increase the incidence of cutaneous malignancies.

Phototherapy is safe for most people with sensitive skin — but only when the right precautions are taken. The key principles are simple: individualize the starting dose through MED testing, choose the most targeted device available (excimer laser), keep your skin product-free before treatment, protect your eyes and healthy skin, moisturize diligently afterward, and avoid additional sun exposure.

Sensitive skin does not mean you cannot benefit from phototherapy. It just means you need a more thoughtful, cautious approach. With proper medical supervision and adherence to these safety guidelines, many people with highly reactive skin successfully achieve repigmentation without burns.
